As one of the largest and most comprehensive maritime history museums in the world, The Mariners’ illustrates the spirit of seafaring adventure through a renowned and diverse collection of maritime artifacts, including figureheads, ship models, and small craft from around the world. The remains of the Civil War ironclad USS Monitor have a permanent home in the Museum’s new USS Monitor Center. This $30 million, 63,500-square-foot facility thrills visitors with a high-definition battle theater, full-scale Monitor replica, interactive exhibits, and notable artifacts like the iconic rotating gun turret. Open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m., closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Admission is $12.50 for adults, $7.50 for children (ages 6 to 18), and free for children under the age of 5 and Museum Members.
